About Me

About Me

Hi, my name is Mo Ibrahim. I’m not a professional or full-time traveler, I’m not a professional blogger, nor am I a professional photographer…I’m just an engineer who fell in love with traveling, especially adventure traveling, and it became my passion and driver in life.

I’m 100% independent traveler who is adventurous, confident, and willing to try new stuff. I decided to write this blog because I wanted to show you that you don’t need to take one of the riskiest decisions ever in life, which is quitting your job, in order to be able to travel the world. I know it is frustrating when you see those people who travel to those amazing places and you found out that they quit their jobs and made traveling theirs and say to yourself “I won’t be able to see these amazing places because I can’t quit my job and live like those people.” So, good news…YOU DON’T HAVE TO! I started traveling independently back in 2000 and till now I visited 54 countries, 325 cities, and 37 U.S. states spanning over 5 continents by flying from 121 airports using 50 different airlines; yet during this period, I got my Bachelor degree in engineering in 2001, 2 master degrees, and a PhD in civil engineering, and built a successful career by always holding a full-time demanding job. So YES…IT CAN BE DONE, but for me, the key was to travel independently and on a budget to save costs as I totally self-finance my trips…no sponsors, no free stuff for reviews…nada! I discovered the secret during my first independent trip back in 2000. At the time, I was an obsessed soccer fan, and my dream was to see my team live into action in England, but since I come from an undeveloped country with a middle-class background, I had to save for this dream, cut corners, and sacrifice some luxuries during my trip to be able to finance it. From this I discovered 2 important things about independent traveling: 1) that some luxuries can be sacrificed and they’ll have no impact on how much fun you’ll have during your trip; 2) that the joy and satisfaction you’ll feel as a result of being able to plan your adventure into an unknown land to you and succeed in it is absolutely priceless…hence, PLANETYOURWAY.

From that moment, I embarked on an amazing journey that took me to some of our planet’s amazing places on earth in an affordable way, and every day and every trip, I learn more and more about both traveling and…life!

When I travel, I plan everything myself, from the flights and transportation, accommodations, the adventures I’ll undertake, the places I’ll visit…etc., and when my adventure requires technical expertise; like rock climbing or rafting, I do my research on the available local guides, select the best, and contact them myself. Consequently, you’ll never find me in a 5-star hotel, I prefer local hotels, hostels, or camps; I drive myself; and, whenever possible, I walk or use public transportation (trains and buses) because for me these are the best ways to discover both a country/city and its people. Most of my trips I do alone to be able to fully explore and blend with the locals, but sometimes, I’m joined in my trip by some amazing like-minded friends whose aim is to self-discover the beauty of our planet. As you can see from my story, that, unlike the norm in the travel blogging world…

I DON’T BLOG TO TRAVEL, I BLOG BECAUSE I TRAVEL!

Enough about me now & let us start our journey:)
